The HUB-compatible VENT 3 is designed for 5.56 rifles and is rated for barrels as short as 10.3 inches.

Silencer Shop reported strong results across the series. Chase was particularly impressed by the VENT 2’s combination of low weight, compact dimensions and multi-platform utility. He also found the VENT 3 effective on a 10.3-inch 5.56 barrel and said its performance became even more notable on 14.5- and 16-inch barrels. His overall assessment was that the three suppressors combined sound performance, flash reduction and reduced back pressure without requiring users to select only one of those priorities.

A Shared 3D-Printed Titanium Platform

Although the VENT 1, VENT 2 and VENT 3 serve different caliber and host categories, Silencer Shop presented them as variations on a common technical platform. All three are made from 3D-printed titanium and use PTR’s Purposely Induced Porosity technology.

The process creates a porous, lattice-like structure that is visible at the suppressor’s front end. Chase compared it to metal foam and explained that it gives propellant gas additional paths through the suppressor. In his description, the structure both captures gas and allows it to move through the system, reducing the amount directed back toward the firearm.

According to the overview, PIP technology also allows PTR to produce internal geometries that would not be practical through conventional CNC machining. The body from the base through the end cap is formed as one continuous structure, which Chase said contributes strength while accommodating the design’s complex internal features.

Silencer Shop attributed the VENT Series’ combination of sound, flash and back-pressure performance to this architecture. Those observations represent the channel’s assessment of the suppressors after range use rather than a controlled, instrumented comparison presented in the video.

Exterior Texture, Heat Dissipation and Serviceability

The pronounced exterior texture is more than a visual design element. Chase said it helps the user maintain a firm grip when checking that the suppressor is secure. The texture also increases the body’s exposed surface area, giving heat more area from which to dissipate.

Silencer Shop observed this effect during its own range sessions. According to Chase, the VENT suppressors tended to cool quickly compared with some other silencers the team had previously fired. The video does not provide measured cooling times, but it identifies faster perceived cooldown as a practical benefit of the textured construction.

Another notable design decision concerns the serialized portion of each suppressor. PTR places the identifying information on the ring at the base. Chase explained that, in the unlikely event of damage requiring substantial repair, this arrangement could allow the damaged portion to be removed and a replacement section welded onto the retained serialized base. As he described it, retaining that component could avoid replacing the entire registered suppressor and filing for a new transfer.

PTR VENT 1: A Multi-Caliber 7.62 Suppressor

The VENT 1 is the largest model in the series and is designed around 7.62-class rifle use. It ships with a 5/8×24 direct-thread mount, but the rear of the suppressor uses the common HUB interface. Users can therefore remove the included direct-thread component and install a compatible quick-detach or alternative mounting system.

Chase described the VENT 1 as suitable for a broad selection of cartridges, including 5.56, 6.5 Creedmoor, the 6mm cartridge family, .308 Winchester and cartridges up to .300 RUM. That range gives the VENT 1 the broadest rifle-caliber coverage of the three suppressors discussed.

The video also calls attention to its performance across different pressure regimes. According to Chase, the design worked well with both subsonic and supersonic ammunition. He specifically discussed firing .300 Blackout in both forms, as well as higher-pressure .308-based cartridges and .300 RUM. Silencer Shop’s assessment was that the VENT 1 maintained strong sound performance across that varied range.

PTR VENT 2: 9mm, .300 Blackout and 8.6 Blackout Versatility

The VENT 2 is the 9mm model, intended for handguns and subguns while retaining compatibility with several additional cartridges. Silencer Shop stated that it is rated for subsonic and supersonic .300 Blackout as well as subsonic 8.6 Blackout.

At 7.6 inches long, 1.5 inches in diameter and 8.9 ounces, it is the shortest, narrowest and lightest of the three VENT suppressors covered in the video. The narrower diameter is particularly relevant on a handgun, where sight clearance and overall bulk can be more consequential than they are on a rifle.

The VENT 2 ships with a 1/2×28 direct-thread mount and uses a 1.125×28 Alpha-pattern rear interface. Chase explained that this allows it to accept compatible SilencerCo Alpha-pattern accessories, including three-lug components and booster assemblies. The pistol shown in the video was configured with an Alpha booster and piston selected for the host’s barrel thread.

Silencer Shop discussed the VENT 2 with both 147-grain subsonic 9mm and higher-velocity defensive ammunition. Chase’s view was that the PIP design performed effectively with both slower subsonic loads and faster ammunition.

The VENT 2 produced one of the review’s strongest reactions. Chase said it “sounds amazing on subsonic 9mm,” but his broader praise centered on its versatility. In particular, he was impressed that the same compact, lightweight suppressor could serve on 9mm firearms, .300 Blackout hosts and subsonic 8.6 Blackout platforms.

PTR VENT 3: Dedicated 5.56 Performance

The VENT 3 is the dedicated 5.56 suppressor in the lineup. It ships with a 1/2×28 direct-thread mount and, like the VENT 1, uses a HUB-compatible rear interface. This gives users the option of installing a preferred compatible mounting system for AR-platform rifles or .223-caliber bolt guns.

A key rating highlighted in the video is its suitability for barrels as short as 10.3 inches. Chase specifically referenced the Mk18 as an example, while also noting that the suppressor can be used on longer-barreled hosts.

Short-barreled 5.56 rifles create a demanding suppressor application because of their blast, visible muzzle flash and gas behavior. Chase said that excess back pressure can contribute to firearm malfunctions and suggested that the PIP structure’s ability to route gas through the suppressor helps address that issue. He also identified flash management as particularly important on these shorter platforms.

Silencer Shop found the VENT 3 highly effective on a 10.3-inch barrel. Chase added an important qualification: in his experience, its performance improved further as barrel length increased. He specifically said the suppressor “really shines” on 14.5- and 16-inch barrels. That nuance makes the VENT 3 relevant both to compact 5.56 carbines and to users seeking stronger perceived sound performance from conventional-length rifles.

Sound Suppression, Back Pressure and Muzzle Flash

The central theme of Silencer Shop’s overview is that the VENT design addresses three areas that can be difficult to balance: sound suppression, back pressure and muzzle flash.

Suppressor designs intended to maximize sound reduction can sometimes direct more gas toward the firearm and shooter. Conversely, designs focused heavily on gas flow may involve compromises elsewhere. Chase’s assessment was that the VENT Series avoided forcing that choice to the extent he had encountered during the team’s shooting.

He summarized the products as “have your cake and eat it too” silencers for users who want high sound performance without dealing with excessive back pressure. This was a subjective conclusion based on Silencer Shop’s range experience; the video did not include sound-meter data, back-pressure measurements or a side-by-side comparison against named competitors.

Flash performance was another consistent positive observation. Chase described the flash performance of all three models as “very impressive,” with the issue receiving particular emphasis during his discussion of the VENT 3 and short-barreled 5.56 rifles.

Included Hard-Sided Storage Cases

Silencer Shop also showed the hard-sided cases included with the VENT suppressors. Each case incorporates fitted foam to hold and protect the suppressor, along with closures that accept locks.

Chase characterized the case as a useful addition for trips to the range or longer-distance travel. Users remain responsible for following all applicable laws, carrier policies and transportation requirements when traveling with a suppressor.

After spending range time with the three models, the Silencer Shop team reported that it enjoyed shooting the entire PTR VENT Series. Chase’s final assessment emphasized that each suppressor provides some degree of cross-platform utility while remaining focused on a primary application.

The VENT 1 stood out to him as the model for .30-caliber and higher-pressure rifle cartridges. The VENT 2 drew particular praise for combining low weight and compact dimensions with compatibility across 9mm, .300 Blackout and subsonic 8.6 Blackout. The VENT 3 impressed the reviewer on short-barreled 5.56, while delivering even stronger perceived performance on 14.5- and 16-inch hosts.
