The PTR 9R – 9×19mm Rifle is a carbine-length evolution of PTR’s 9mm pistol platform, built for improved accuracy, control, and extended engagement distances. Chambered in 9×19mm and configured as a rifle at the point of sale, the 9R combines a longer barrel and fixed shoulder stock with PTR’s legacy roller-delayed blowback operating system for smooth, reliable operation.

At its core is a 16.2” stress-relieved barrel with a 1:10” right-hand twist, optimized for accuracy and consistency across common 9mm loads. The roller-delayed system reduces recoil impulse and bolt speed compared to straight blowback designs, improving controllability and long-term durability. The semi-automatic action utilizes a robust bolt carrier with nitride heat treatment and tungsten dead-blow weighting, engineered for uniform cycling and sustained use.

The rifle features a durable combination of powder coating and Parkerized finishes for corrosion resistance and wear protection. A 4.5” steel Picatinny rail allows for straightforward optic mounting, while the mil-spec anodized aluminum handguard supports M-LOK® accessories for modular configuration. Weighing approximately 6.32 lbs and measuring 34.5” overall, the 9R balances stability with practical handling.

  Bought the California version in September 2020. It has a Kydex fin grip. mounted a Holosun on the Picatinny rail. Got the Magpul ambi safety lever and changed the forend to the original HK smooth, wide grip. Although I retained the M-lok frond and mounted a Streamlight TLR RM2 to it for night matches. This gun has been amazing. It has been used in pistol caliber carbine class in USPSA, Steel Challenge and Action Pistol, over 80 matches in 4 years. It has seen over 16,000 rounds and just keeps running like a clock. No breakdowns. It is accurate, has minimal recoil or muzzle rise. A dream to shoot. Someone new always notices it and makes a favorable comment. If I lived in a “free state” I would buy the shorter barrel version in heartbeat for my home defense gun, especially with the Streamlight on it.
